SENES has extensive experience in all
aspects of Environmental Assessment (EA). The firm has developed numerous EAs
for the mining and related industries, and has been retained by industry and
regulators to assist in the development of criteria and guidelines for EAs. We
have carried out many base and precious metal and uranium mining EAs in the
Canadian mining sector, including EAs for Canada's largest coal mine, EAs for
the expansion as well as the closure of the Elliot Lake uranium mines, and EAs
supporting the development and expansion of the Saskatchewan uranium deposits.
The experience and expertise gained through our work in the EA process is
complimented by our awareness of many of the issues related to cleanup and
decommissioning, as closure planning is now an integral part of the EA process
in many jurisdictions. In addition to EAs carried out directly for the mining
industry, SENES has been a key contributor in major initiatives such
as:
- development of new federal (Canadian)
EA guidelines for the base and precious metal mining sectors;
- advisors to the State of Virginia on
environmental issues related to developing a uranium mine;
- EAs of thermal and nuclear power
plants across Canada;
- assessments of existing and potential
landfills and hazardous waste storage sites throughout Canada;
- siting of interim and final disposal
for radioactive contaminated materials for both the government and the private
sector; and
- many EAs of major municipal and
private sector redevelopment projects including historically contaminated
lands.
