AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM MONITORING

Monitoring of aquatic ecosystems is routinely carried out to establish baseline conditions and to measure the effects of project activities.

Such monitoring programs typically include:

  • measurement of the physical, chemical and radiological characteristics of water and sediment
  • river flows and lake water elevation
  • the diversity and abundance of fish and benthic invertebrates
  • the spatial extent and characteristics of fish habitat and spawning areas.
