Wastewater & Water Quality

SENES provides expert advice on regulatory compliance for the management of industrial and municipal wastewater effluent. SENES provides technical support for the completion of regulatory compliance documents including Certificate of Approval (CofA) and Permit to Take Water (PTTW) applications for the collection, transmission, treatment or disposal of stormwater and wastewater generated from various industrial and municipal activities. Based on extensive knowledge of MISA principles, SENES can provide recommendations for policy, strategy and guideline development, along with wastewater treatment solutions for the protection of aquatic habitat.

SENES can also complete effluent and receiving water quality studies through the design of monitoring programs, detailed water quality modelling (e.g., ECOMSED, CORMIX, etc) and mixing zone analysis for site-specific single discharge scenarios, as well as taking a watershed-based approach for contaminant loading and transport. Using a risk-based approach SENES can develop effluent discharge and receiving water objectives.

SENES also provides services in assessing the impact on the aquatic environment through monitoring of baseline conditions in an area, the estimation of the likely impacts of various activities on receiving water quality. Surface water, fish, phytoplankton, benthic and macrophyte samples can be collected and analyzed to describe the existing environment. Field programs can be designed to collect sediments in local harbours and a proposed disposal area. The suitability of sediments for open water disposal can be assessed, as well as the use of the dredged sediments for beach nourishment.
