FReSH-4 is a weather forecasting system
developed by SENES Consultants Limited that runs the NMM (Non-hydrostatic
Mesoscale Model). This model was developed at the National Centre for
Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in Washington, D.C., by Zavisa Janjic. This
model was originally developed in 1995 and has been, and continues to be,
intensely tested under operational conditions since 1999. It was selected in
2004 by NCEP to replace the current operational forecast model (ETA).
On
the basis of NCEP's tests and SENES' own verification testing across Ontario,
we can confidently say that NMM belongs to a small group of mature
international weather forecasting models.
