The FReSH-4 is a system that
runs a state-of-the-art weather forecast model, which produces
three-dimensional meteorological fields of interest up to 240 hours in advance.
It runs on a PC and uses products available from the Web. The processing time
is up to 4 to 10 times faster than other forecast models and has a resolution
of 4 km compared to standard models that use between 12 and 30 km.
The
forecast area can be selected to match user needs and the system is totally
automated to run either once or twice per day. Typical hourly output fields
include rain/snow patterns, cloud cover and fog, wind speed and direction,
temperature, cloud cover, humidity, and any of about 130 other weather
parameters.
A new product, FReSH Air, combines FReSH-4 with the
CALMET/CALPUFF emission dispersion model and can predict pollutant spread in
real time. |
